Motorized and Automated Commercial Shades

Motorization is a coordination scope, not just a product
The shades themselves are the easy part. What makes motorized packages go wrong is coordination: power at the head of each opening, low-voltage pathways to controllers, wall station locations that survive the interior design review, and a controls contractor who needs to know shade addresses before commissioning week. All of that has to be settled during rough-in, not during install.
We get involved early for exactly that reason. We provide power and pathway requirements to the electrical contractor, confirm pocket depth and access for motor and tube assemblies, and coordinate with the controls or AV integrator so the shades are on the network and grouped the way the owner expects. On projects where that coordination was skipped, the fix is almost always expensive.
Energy codes and daylighting
Automated shading increasingly appears in specifications because of energy performance. Daylighting strategies described in ASHRAE 90.1 and adopted energy codes push projects toward controlling solar heat gain and glare without simply leaving shades down all day. Automated systems, timeclock and astronomical schedules, and sun-tracking sequences let a building keep view and daylight while managing load.
For LEED and similar programs, shading contributes to daylight and thermal comfort credits, and to occupant control requirements. We install the specified system and sequence so the design intent that earned those credits survives into the finished building.
Systems we install
We install Lutron-class and Mecho-class motorized shading systems and comparable commercial platforms, including battery, low-voltage and line-voltage motors, hardwired and RF control, group and zone control, wall stations, keypads and integration with lighting and building management systems. We work as the installing subcontractor alongside the manufacturer's commissioning agent where the specification requires factory commissioning.
We also install motorized shades on smaller scopes — boardrooms, lobbies, atriums, training rooms and hospitality amenity spaces — where only a handful of openings are automated but they are the most visible ones in the building.
